Hearing Protection

DID YOU KNOW?

Headphones at 70% volume can reach about 85 decibels — the same threshold where hearing damage begins. [2] If your environment is loud enough that you have to shout to be heard, your ears are at risk.

STAY INFORMED

  • Hearing loss from loud noise is permanent and irreversible. The damage happens gradually, so you may not notice until it’s too late. [1]
  • Hearing loss has also been linked to mental decline, depression, and social isolation. [1]
  • It can reduce enjoyment of music, conversation, and everyday sounds, negatively affecting quality of life. [1]
  • If you must raise your voice to talk to someone an arm’s length away, the noise level is likely above 85 dB, and hearing protection is recommended. [1]

HELPFUL TIPS

1. Use a Sound Level Meter

  • Download a sound meter app or use a dedicated device to measure noise levels at work or at home. Many environments exceed safe limits without us realizing. [1]

2. Wear Hearing Protection in Noisy Areas

  • Always use earmuffs or earplugs in areas with power tools, heavy machinery, loud music, or gunfire. Consistent use is key to preventing damage. [1]

3. Insert Foam Earplugs Correctly

  • Roll, insert, and hold: Roll the plug into a tight cylinder, insert it deeply into the ear canal, and hold it in place as it expands for a snug fit. [1]

HEARING SAFETY REMINDER

Hearing loss is invisible, irreversible, and preventable. Use hearing protection every time you're in a noisy environment — not just when it's convenient. Your ears will thank you in the decades to come.
