- Line-of-fire incidents are a common cause of serious workplace injuries.
- Common hazards include: standing between moving equipment and fixed object, working under a suspended load, being in path of pressurized fluids or gases, placing body parts near point points, standing in path of a tensioned cable, or working where materials could shift or fall.
HELPFUL TIPS
- Identify the path of travel; consider where equipment, materials, or energy could move if something goes wrong
- Position yourself safety, away from pinch points, crush zones, swing radiuses, and suspended loads
- Beware of stored energy such as pressure, gravity, springs, tension, and rotating equipment that could suddenly release energy
- Keep personnel away from hazardous areas with barricades, spotters, or clearly defined work zones when needed
