KNOW THE RISK

MITIGATE THE RISK
1 – Pull the Pin
- This breaks the tamper seal and arms the extinguisher. Make sure the nozzle is pointed away from you. [2]
2 – Aim Low
- Point the nozzle or hose at the base of the fire. Aiming at flames won’t stop the source of the fire. [2]
3 – Squeeze the Handle
- This discharges the extinguishing agent. Maintain firm, even pressure. [2]
4 – Sweep Side to Side
- Move the nozzle in a sweeping motion at the base of the fire until the flames are out. Watch the area for re-ignition. [2]
FIRE EXTINGUISHER SAFETY REMINDER
Fire extinguishers are only effective when used correctly — and only on the right kind of fire. Always know your surroundings, check extinguisher labels, and use the P.A.S.S. technique to act quickly and safely. If a fire cannot be controlled immediately, evacuate and call 911.
